iMatrix-511

iMatrix-511, is a recombinant protein that has the same sequence as Laminin 511-E8 fragment, an enzyme degradation fragment of Laminin 511. Laminin is a protein that is present in the basement membrane with other extracellular matrix.  Composed of a combination of 3 parts, α-chain, β-chain and γ-chain, there are currently 15 know types of Laminin1 (see Fig. 1).  Cells have integrin receptors that recognize the extracellular matrix, and through these receptors various signals involving cell adhesion, spreading and multiplication are transmitted.  The primary receptor recognizing Laminin 511 is α6β1 integrin.  In order for α6β1 integrin to recognize Laminin 511, globular domain of Laminin α5 and C-terminal glutamic acid of Laminin γ1 is particularly necessary 2 3.  Although Laminin 511-E8 is a fragment of Laminin 511, it has the same α6β1 integrin binding capacity as the full length Laminin 511
